ILL FAQ

Interlibrary Loan (ILL): Frequently Asked Questions

What about overdue loans and fines?

Fines are assessed at the rate of $1 per day, beginning with the first day the loan is overdue and ending with the 30th day for a maximum of $30. There is no grace period on ILL items, as there is with OhioLINK books. All borrowers, including faculty, are charged fines for overdue ILL items. All borrowers who keep ILL items for more than 30 days past the due date are billed for replacement of the item, $100, plus the maximum overdue fine of $30 for a total of $130.

If the ILL Office has not already paid the lending library for the replacement cost of the item, the $100 will be refunded upon return of the time, and the borrower will owe $30. If the ILL Office has already paid the replacement cost to the lending library, the borrower will be responsible for the total fine of $130.

Libraries all over the world participate in ILL in a cooperative effort to provide needed materials to researchers. When Kent State fails to return materials on time, we jeopardize our borrowing privileges with lending libraries. The Head of ILL reserves the right to revoke ILL privileges if borrowers routinely abuse them by keeping books long past their due dates.
