Student Multimedia Studio Facilities and Software

Multimedia / Scanning Workstations

8 PC Workstations
All "scanning" workstations are connected to the web and equipped with flatbed document/slide/filmstrip scanners and multiple USB and firewire ports for connecting your digital cameras and mass storage devices.
2 workstations still have zip and floppy drives, but if you're still using zip and floppy disks, you should switch to USB flash drives ASAP. Not only are they more reliable and can hold much more data, but they won't be supported on most new workstations you'll encounter in the future.
Microphones also available: Just installed during Spring Break, March 2007, microphones are now available on all 8 workstations for students who need to record narration directly onto Powerpoint presentations, record narration into PhotoStory projects or record voice using Audacity for creating "Audio Essays".
Two workstations are also equipped with Wacom digital drawing tablets for drawing and painting using pressure sensitive pens that change line width, transparency and color depending on pen pressure... much better than drawing with a "mouse"!
Software includes:
- Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended
- Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional
- Adobe Flash CS3 Professional
- Dreamweaver CS3
- MS Frontpage 2003

Copyright FREE Music
The SMS just installed over 60 Gigabytes of copyright free music on a music server, making it available to all workstations in the SMS for everything from Digital Videos, Powerpoint, PhotoStory, Audio Essays or any type of presentation where quality, copyright free music is required.
This is especially important for keeping your web-based presentations 100% above board and legal!
One of the great features of this music is the software that is used, Sonic Fire Pro. Sonci Fire Pro allows music to be "composed" from "basic" genres, styles, moods, instrumentation criteria to fit any specified playback time. It even allows the creator to generate different "moods" within a composition to allow for different types of coordination with other audio elements, like narration or sound effects or with visual elements in a move or powerpoint presentation.
AND..... most importantly....IT"S EASY TO LEARN AND USE!!
For a preview of how Sonic Fire Pro works, visit the company's demo/tutorial website at: http://www.smartsound.com/sonicfire/demos/index.html
