Scope and Content

Through the efforts of Burton Barnard, Field Representative of the Ohio Labor History Project, and Roger Meade, Director of the Ohio Labor History Project, the Kent State University Archives obtained the records of the International Association of Machinists (I.A.M.), Local 200, from the union recording-secretary John Kaglic. On July 12 and 25, 1979, the records were delivered to the Archives.

Local 200 is a craft union associated with the American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organizations (A.F.L.-C.I.O.). The members of Local 200 have been employed at the Youngstown Foundry and Machine Company, Boardman Street Roll Turning Shop in Youngstown, Ohio.

The materials in this collection includes records covering the years 1934 to 1973 although the bulk of the material relates to the years 1944 - 1971. The collection includes correspondence, bylaws, contract agreements, membership books and applications, minutes, receipts and disbursements, and the official records of the Local, The folders titled official records were delivered to the Archives so marked and contain financial reports, stamp charge cards, receipts, monthly review statements, dues check-off lists, bills, audit reports, grievance forms and nominations for local officers. The records have been arranged into topical categories. These categories include correspondence, both received and sent, memorandums on employees, financial and official records, minutes, membership records and applications, and agreements. All bound materials in the collection have been placed in box two.

The contents of this collection, in its totality, reveal very little about the founding and history of Local 200. However, if used in conjunction with other Youngstown material and the records of Youngstown Foundry and Machine Company, the documents offer the researcher valuable insight into the concerns of organized labor on the local level., Also, the collection, with its membership lists, membership applications and minutes, is of value to genealogists.

The Union has kindly agreed to dedicate both literary and property rights to Special Collections and Archives.
